Exhaled Nitric Oxide (eNO)

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lower airways of the lung. Inflammation causes airway constriction which limits the amount of air that can pass and makes the airways sensitive to allergens and viruses.

One can directly measure the amount of inflammation by testing the breath for levels of nitric oxide. We measure levels of exhaled nitric oxide with the use of an FDA approved NIOX instrument. It helps to better diagnose and treat asthmatic patients and guide the use of medications.

Patient care can be improved by directly measuring bronchial inflammation and adjusting what type and dose of medication to use.
